Old Customs House – Heritage Open Days 2019
September 14 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
The Ipswich Society is proud to coordinate the Heritage Open Days event in Ipswich on behalf of the town and we are lucky to be able to help support the opening of the Old Customs House on the Common Quay of the historic Wet Dock.
The Old Customs House was built in 1845 and designed by John Medlan Clark using red and white brick and stone. An interesting feature of the facade is the working of the brick to imitate stone. The ground floor has been renovated for use as a conference centre by the owners of the Port of Ipswich ABP. Only the ground floor will be open where we will be hosting an exhibition reflecting aspects of Ipswich’s maritime heritage and allowing access to a key part of Ipswich’s Victorian Wet Dock.
Our close friend at the Ipswich Society have organised many more events to see over the 14th and 15th September and you can find them all listed on their website here.
