Shefarers of Ipswich
17th October 2023 @ 11:00 am - 21st October 2023 @ 5:00 pm£15.00
Ipswich Maritime Trust is supporting the Shefarers of Ipswich project, part of this year’s SPILL Festival (13th-19th October).
If you’d like to join in, here are the key dates and events:
Tuesday 17th – Thursday 19th October, 11am – 6pm: Open Ship exhibition and drop-in research hub, on board Sailing Barge Victoria (aka Victor), alongside the Old Customs House, Ipswich.
“Climb aboard and witness the official renaming of Sailing Barge ‘Victoria’, celebrate the women sailors, port workers, sea swimmers and boatbuilders who have shaped our attitudes to the sea, and explore Suffolk’s maritime heritage from a feminist perspective. If you’re a shefarer yourself, you can contribute your own stories of the sea in these open, drop-in research sessions.”
Wednesday 18th October: Accessible Open Ship
“An accessible Open Ship session will be held on the afternoon in the foyer of Jerwood Dancehouse. This will be accessible to wheelchair users and those with limited mobility. British Sign Language interpretation will be provided.”
Saturday 21st October: 1.30-approx 4pm
Opening performance by The Silver Darlings at 1.30pm; followed by a banquet hosted by the artist collective secret agency and discussion with the Shefarers of Ipswich at 2pm on board Victoria, and a procession to The Hold.
“Join them at the captain’s table for a banquet like no other!”
Tickets: £15 from https://www.spillfestival.com/shefarers-of-ipswich
