The ‘London’ Wreck – Steven Ellis
The ‘London’, a Cromwellian built warship sank in the Thames Estuary over 350 years ago. It is now on Historic England’s high-risk register. As it is sitting right on the edge of the main shipping channel, every passing vessel has a detrimental effect on the shipwreck.
Steven Ellis is a volunteer licensed diver and with his team formed The London Shipwreck Trust to support the recovery of artefacts and remains so that they are not lost forever. They are working alongside the Nautical Archaeological Society looking for funding to “Save the London 1665”.
Talks start at 7.30pm and all are welcome at the Waterfront Building, University of Suffolk. The cost for attending a talk is £3.50 for members and £4.50 for guests.
Car parking is available in the nearby Duke St car park (£1.70 per hour), or at IBC pay car parks (only £1 after 6pm) at St Peters Wharf or at Fore St Baths. The cost for attending a talk is £3.50 for members and £4.50 for guests.
