Visit ‘Historic Harwich’ All Day Trips

Join us for a unique and memorable experience on a journey back in time aboard the historic sailing barge Victor. Casting off from the Ipswich Old Custom House at 9am we return 4.30-5pm, depending on wind and tide. The Orwell estuary is one of the most beautiful in the world with wooded banks, old estates and the historic village of Pin Mill. You’ll have the opportunity to help with the sails, take the helm, or simply relax on deck and enjoy the glorious scenery.

After registration from 08.30 am, the day includes snacks, drinks, lunch with wine and
an afternoon cream tea. We will sail down the Orwell to Ha’penny pier, Harwich. After a 90-
minute tour of historic Harwich with guides from the Harwich Society, we return to
the Victor for lunch with wine as we sail back up the beautiful river Orwell to Ipswich.

Victor was built in 1895 by Shrubsalls at Ipswich for Owen Parry of Colchester, mainly for use in the linseed oil trade. In 1947 she was the last sailing barge to be decommissioned. She was converted to a motor barge in the 1950s, restored in 1974 and refurbished in 2005/7.

The cost is £75 per head.
