Wemyss’ War, A British Admiral on Land and Sea – John Johnson-Allen
A return visit by the popular speaker John Johnson-Allen, who will talk about ‘Rosy’ Wemyss about whom he has authored a book, ‘Rosy Wemyss, Admiral of the Fleet’.
Wemyss is a largely unknown man who left an indelible mark on the life of Britain. His wide range of experience covers his journey from being a cadet in the Victorian Royal Navy to Admiral of the Fleet at the end of the First World War, though to service on the Royal Yacht. He organised the landings and evacuation from Gallipoli and supported Lawrence of Arabia and the Arab Revolt and was Allied Naval Representative at the peace negotiations at Compiegne in 1918. As First Sea Lord he was also present at the Peace Conference at Versailles.
All talks start at 7:30pm with entry from 7pm at the University of Suffolk Waterfront Building.
Car parking is available in the nearby Duke St car park or at IBC pay car parks at St Peters Wharf or Fore St Baths.
The cost for attending a talk is £3.50 for members and £4.50 for guests; included are free tea, coffee and biscuits after the talk.
We no longer require pre-booking of tickets for our talks and take both card and cash payments.
