Our Maritime Memoir Project launched last year following the first Covid-19 lockdown. The project aimed to gather and preserve stories from Maritime Ipswich’s past. The stories we have been sent are great and we would like to thank everyone that has submitted a story to the project. This is our 3rd and one of the last updates on the project. We originally aimed for the project to last a year and formally close at the end of September 2021. This allows our volunteers to curate and archive the stories we have gathered.
We still know there are so many more fantastic and interesting stories out there. So we will continue to welcome stories being submitted following the formal closer of the project.
As one of the legacies of the project we wanted to make sure that these stories are recorded to avoid them being lost forever. We are now collating the stories and creating an anthology of them to place in our archive and collection. Once this is complete our team will start selecting stories for use in existing and future exhibitions. As well as make them available digitally, and use them to support further research into the history of Maritime Ipswich. We would again like to thank everyone who has got involved, shared this project with friends and family and sent their stories into us.
Together we can continue to preserve and share the stories of Maritime Ipswich.
